Copper, Bronze & Brass Care
Each Garden’s Gate Jewelry piece is handmade with care and intention. A little everyday care helps your copper, bronze or brass jewelry keep its character.
Natural tarnish and patina
Copper, bronze and brass can darken over time, developing a patina that becomes part of the piece’s story. This natural change is not a flaw. Enjoy the aged finish, or gently polish your jewelry if you prefer a brighter look.
Cleaning and storage
Use a soft jewelry cloth to gently polish your piece. Store it dry and away from moisture, and avoid water, pools and harsh chemicals. If you’re unsure how to clean a particular finish, please ask me before trying a cleaner or home remedy.
Why copper can leave a green mark
Copper can react with moisture and substances on your skin, sometimes leaving a temporary green tint. Bronze and brass contain copper and may do this too. The mark usually washes off with soap and water, and experiences vary from person to person. A color mark alone does not tell you whether you’re having a skin reaction. If you notice irritation, stop wearing the piece and seek advice from a qualified healthcare professional.
